Micah Burgess is a New York City–based guitarist known for stylistic versatility, dynamic stagepresence, and a career spanning Broadway, orchestral crossover performances, jazz, andcontemporary commercial music. Originally from West Virginia, they began performingprofessionally as a teenager before earning degrees in jazz studies from Duquesne Universityand New York University.
Known for combining rock, jazz, and funk/R&B styles with a highly adaptable performanceapproach, Burgess has appeared with the American Symphony Orchestra, Parlando Chamber Orchestra, and orchestras across the United States in productions ranging from symphonic rockto Broadway and contemporary vocal concerts. Select performance credits include appearanceswith Josh Groban, Lea Michele at Carnegie Hall, Tituss Burgess at the John F. Kennedy Centerfor the Performing Arts, and Petula Clark on a national tour.
On Broadway, Burgess held the Guitar 1 chair in School of Rock and has appeared as aguitarist in more than a dozen Broadway productions, including MJ the Musical, The Lion King,Tommy, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and Newsies. In addition to performing, Burgess is co-founder and Executive Director of Art House Astoria, anonprofit arts conservatory in Queens, New York, and has taught at New York University, TheNew School, Duquesne University, and Queens Conservatory.
