Wards And Music

They've toured the world, performed for royalty and heads of state, stopped the show at the Hollywood Bowl - and made sure their three boys got their homework done before bedtime. Meet the Wards, Kirby and Beverly, married for 23 years and counting, all spent in the Musical Theatre. Wards and Music offers a glimpse ito the life and love of a rare breed, the "Song and Dance Team" in the new Millenium.

Kirby Ward has been in the entertainment industry for over thirty-five years and is a veteran of over sixty theatrical productions. He's performed for The Queen of England and appeared as Bob Hope at the Library of Congress' 100th Birthday celebration of the comic's life. As the original Bobby Child in the London West End premier of Crazy For You he received an Olivier Award nomination and later a Helen Hayes Award nomination at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. You can hear his performance on the London cast recording. He was also featured in the Broadway revival of Show Boat directed by Hal Prince, as well as numerous other Broadway Shows. Kirby has played many of the World showrooms with luminaries such as Debbie Reynolds, Phyllis Diller, Shecky Green and Bill Cosby. As director and choreographer, he has created material for Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor, worked with Bette Midler and James Caan on the film For The Boys, and has directed and choreographed both off-Broadway and regionally all over the US. He's been named Best Director of 2002 and 2005 in Boston for his critically acclaimed productions of Singin' in the Rain and Crazy For You and recently received the San Diego Critics Circle Craig Noel Awards for Best Director of a Musical for 2005 and Best Choreography for 2007. He's appeared in concert at the Hollywood Bowl, with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Virginia, New Mexico, Atlanta Maryland, Winnipeg, Pacific and Hong Kong Symphonies. Kirby has written for television and film, most recently winning Best Short Film at the Kent Film Festival for his original film, Down in the Mouth, a movie he wrote directed and edited. His original new musical, The Gypsy King, was featured at the Theatre Building Chicago's New Tuners series and Goodspeed Music Theatre's New Artists Festival.

Beverly Ward has been performing since she was a child. She fell in love with musicals while studying at San Diego's Junior Theatre. By the time she was eighteen she was touring with Annie Miller and Mickey Rooney in Sugar Babies and hasn't stopped working since. One reviewer said of her singing "She has a set of pipes an organ would envy". Much of her professional career has been spent (happily) playing opposite her husband, actor/director/writer Kirby Ward. Together they've toured the world and have been fortunate enough to perform for royalty and heads of state as a team. At the Hollywood Bowl (in front of 18,000 people) their rendition of "I've Got A Crush On You" stopped the show cold. On Broadway Beverly covered and went on for Louise and the Queen in EPIC PROPORTIONS. Her National tour credits include playing the wisecracking Ellie May Chipley in Hal Prince's SHOWBOAT and the tough as nails Polly Baker in CRAZY FOR YOU (a portrayal that netted her a Helen Hayes nomination for best actress in a musical while at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC). Regional audiences nationwide have seen her perform countless roles. She's a composer and is working on an album of original folk/rock/jazz music. She's also written the scores for two stage musicals and has begun work on a third.
