JOHNNY RODGERS is an internationally-celebrated singer-songwriter, pianist and entertainer who is a favorite in the New York performance scenes and beyond. He dazzles audiences as a seasoned performer of the Great American Songbook with timeless favorites from the likes of Johnny Mercer, Mel Torme, Hoagy Carmichael, and Ray Charles, as well as with his own New American songbook original songs. Johnny Rodgers and the Johnny Rodgers Band are creating fans in the U.S. and abroad. The Band was selected by Jazz at Lincoln Center and U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs for the renowned Rhythm Road international tour in 2010 to share their American Pop music with the world. Their music captures today's vibrancy of sound with roots in the diverse styles of blues, soul, jazz, country and pop that have made American music popular around the world. Johnny Rodgers Band features Brian Glassman on bass, Joe Ravo on guitar, Danny Mallon on drums and Johnny on piano with his powerful vocals.
In 2008, Johnny won Billboard's World Song Contest with Home to Mondocino, the Great American Song Contest with One More Moment, and the ASCAP Foundation Award. Making his recognition, Rodgers has earned the famed Nightlife, Bistro, and MAC Awards for his outstanding performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel, The Colony Hotel Palm Beach, Feinstein's at Loews Regency, Birdland Amphitheatre, Arturo Sandoval's and other jazz clubs around the country, festival like Festival Miami at the University of Miami and to the 3000 sell-out crowd at the historic Deering Estate in Miami. Recently Johnny performed for Billy Joel and Judy Collins at Lincoln Center's ASCAP Foundation Awards. Fans voted Johnny's songs, Midday Moon and She, #1 and #2 in Jazz, at Ourstage.com and also The Best Of You In Me, #1 in the John Lennon Song Contest channel.
Liza Minnelli discovered Rodgers and brought him on as her pianist and guest performer for her world tours. He recently debuted on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning Liza's At The Palace, which was recorded and played by PBS on stations across the country. Johnny cowrote the show's featured song I Would Never Leave You and is included on teh show's recent DVD release as well as the Grammy-nominated CD.
Johnny recently released two EP's featuring the Johnny Rodgers Band to add to his 2005 debut CD titled Box of Photographs. The new releases are the indie-pop Bound Together, featuring the Father's Day/graduation tribute The Best Of You In Me chosen by Hal Leonard Publishing for a choral pop arrangement, and Let's Make a Date, the title song being a big-band swing duet featuring Johnny and Liza Minnelli. In additional to Liza Minnelli the Johnny Rodgers Band have also performed and recorded with Michael Feinstein, Randy Brecker, Ann Hampton Callaway and Tom Harrell, among others and are featured on recordings that celebrate Maury Yeston, Carol Hall, and Julie Styne.
