From "We Can Be Kind" to "Listen to My Heart," "Help Is On The Way" and "We Live On Borrowed Time," David Friedman has written songs of love, hope and inspiration. In this soul-stirring evening the composer is joined by two of New York's finest vocalists, including Broadway star Anne Runolfsson ("Phantom of the Opera," "Victor/Victoria"), in this beautiful evening of song sure to evoke powerful emotions in these challenging times.
After spending several years conducting musicals on Broadway, David went toHollywood where he was the conductor and vocal arranger on such Disney classics as "Beauty & The Beast," "Aladdin," "Pocahontas," and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." This led to David's writing music and lyrics for Disney's "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and to scoring three animated television series and the film "Trick".
As a record producer, David started his own company, MIDDER Music Records, and wrote for and and produced all of the late, great Nancy LaMott's CD's. David's songs have also been performed and recorded by luminaries such as Diana Ross ("Your Love - Quadruple Platinum), Barry Manilow, ("We Live on Borrowed Time" and "You're There,") Petula Clark, Laura Branigan, Jason Alexander, Laurie Beechman, Lainie Kazan, Leslie Uggams, Kristen Chenoweth, Heather Headley, Kathie Lee Gifford and many others. His Christmas Oratorio "King Island Christmas," written with Deborah Brevoort, has had over 30 productions around the world, and his musical "Chasing Nicolette," written with Peter Kellogg, opened to unanimous rave reviews at the Prince theater in Philadelphia in December and is slated for Broadway in the fall. Another new Musical, "Desperate Measures," also written with Peter Kellogg, recently opened in Dallas to glowing reviews and is headed for New York. David's platinum selling song "Open Your Eyes To Love" was featured on the soundtrack of "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" and he has written the opening song for Disney's sequel to Bambi, due out in 2006. Having recently released his Songbook, containing 63 of his best known songs, David will soon begin work on a solo CD and as many as 10 new posthumous Nancy LaMott CD's and DVD's, including "Nancy LaMott Live at Tavern on the Green" which was released nationwide to unanimous acclaim.
Recently David completed an off-broadway run of his revue, entitled "Listen To My Heart-The Songs of David Friedman," featuring David and 5 of Broadways finest singers performing 27 of his songs. The Cast CD containing a live performance of the entire show is now available in stores, and companies are opening all across America.
Anne Runolfsson has an impressive background in the musical heater, cabaret and concert world. She has performed and recorded extensively in America and abroad. On Broadway she has the distinction of having stood-by for Julie Andrews and Liza Minelli in, "Victor/Victoria," a role she went on to reprise in the National Tour. Other Broadway credits include starring roles in: "James Joyce's The Dead," "Les Miserables," "Cyrano," and, "Aspects of Love."
On tour, in the US, she starred in: "The Secret Garden," and "Les Miserables." Her one-woman cabaret show has been performed in the US at New York's famous "Rainbow and Stars," Chicago's "Pump Room," and Hollywood's, "Cinegrill." (However, it was her performance of this show at The Icelandic National Theater in Reykjavik that remains her favorite.) For her work in cabaret, she was awarded the prestigious MAC award, (Manhattan Association of Cabaret) for Best Female Vocalist.
Her concert appearances include The Orchestra of St. Lukes at Radio City with Jose Carreras, The Dutch Metropole orchestra at the world renowned Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, The St. Louis Symphony, The Utah Symphony, The Milwaukee Symphony, The Indianapolis Symphony, and The Long Island Philharmonic, among many others.
